What’s better than growing your own fruits, herbs, and veggies? Nothing, since you know for certain they are organic and they invariably taste more robust than greens from the grocery store. Lotusland curator of the Living Collection, Virginia Hayes (who is also The Indy Gardening columnist) has written a book, titled The Gourmet Garden, for green thumbs explaining how to cultivate a garden that will provide you with ingredients for all your cooking needs. Hayes discusses the growing of herbs, fruits, vegetables, and edible flowers; provides directions for potting, pruning, and tending the plants; and offers advice for harvesting and storing said food. There will be a book signing and discussion with the author Saturday, November 1, 2-4 p.m., Lotusland, 695 Ashley Rd. For more information, call 969-9990. Cost: $35. The book is available at amazon.com.
