Margaret Connell and Ed Easton celebrate their Goleta city council victories in November, 2008

Update: As of Saturday afternoon, Goleta City Councilmember Ed Easton is “doing quite well,” according to Goleta City Manager Dan Singer. Easton, who collapsed at a social event on Friday evening, was exhibiting “good color” and a “sense of humor,” and expressing interest in getting back to his General Plan EIR document, Singer said.

Last night, Easton was admitted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where his heart is being monitored. Ky Easton, his wife, said Ed’s own doctor visited him in the hospital this morning and ran some tests. Depending on the outcome, Easton may be home on Saturday evening.

She added that the problem “seems to be a heart arrhythmia,” that the upper chamber of his heart is pumping blood faster than the lower chamber. “He just fainted,” Ky Easton said. “There was no seizure or other problem.”

Nothing like this has ever happened to her husband in the past, she said, adding, “I think he’s going to be fine.”
