Tree Work to Slow Down Highway 192

Chainsaw-wielding Caltrans crews will be holding up traffic on Highway 192 between Mission Canyon and Glen Albyn roads for the next two weeks – weather permitting – felling anywhere from 14 to 31 trees. The tree work is part of a bigger $1.7 million project designed to place storm drains in the ditches running from the 2700 to the 2800 block of Foothill Road, and paving new shoulders over them. Caltrans says the work is necessary to improve drainage and to improve access for emergency vehicles and has been endorsed by the Mission Canyon Association. Some residents contend, however, the project will do little to address the real traffic safety issues along that stretch of road. They contend that most collisions are caused by speeding motorists turning off Foothill coupled with poor visibility. Construction for the project is expected to start in earnest in mid April and conclude by the end of July.
