David Abraham, 48, was pled guilty on 7/9 to charges of grand theft relating to a scheme in which he sold annuity policies and then transferred them to another company, creating fines to the policyholders but commissions for himself. Abraham was sentence to 90 days in jail. He must also repay the $2.1 million in funds he took from clients, many of whom were from the Santa Barbara area.

Having allegedly accepted $50,000 worth of payments from customers for whom he never did agreed-upon landscaping work, Gilbert Lee Martinez, 40, was arrested by Sheriff’s detectives on 7/9. Martinez-who had reportedly targeted elderly people-was caught attempting to cash a forged check in Arcadia, Calif., when officers there discovered a warrant for his arrest. He is currently being held in the Santa Barbara County Jail on $50,000 bail.

Judge George Eskin postponed Orson Mozes’s sentencing to 7/23. Mozes, originally arrested for running a fraudulent adoption organization, pled guilty earlier this month to 17 felony counts of obtaining money by false pretenses, and another count of aggravated white-collar crime.
