The list of people from the Santa Ynez Valley who have contributed significantly to Dan Secord’s campaign is a “Who’s Who” of the pro-development crowd. This list includes Brooks Firestone, Willy Chamberlin, Bill Giorgi, the Jacksons (Alisal Ranch), Saarloos (Saarloos and Sons)—and their favorite land-use attorney, Susan Petrovich.

For decades they have had two express goals: 1) to open up the agricultural lands in this county (including the Gaviota Coast) to non-agricultural development, and 2) to re-district the county to give perpetual control to the pro-development North County politicians.

If Secord wins, and delivers what he seems to have promised to these people, we can count on mansions, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, and full-blown resorts on our agricultural lands.

Please don’t be fooled by the phony Secord campaign. It has never been about the budget. It has always been about the development crowd’s desire to shift power to the North County, and, in pursuit of their profit, to change the character of this county forever.—Bob Field, Santa Ynez (former chair, Santa Ynez Valley Community Plan Advisory Committee)
