Just because school is out doesn’t mean you should stop opening books. From now until August 7, the S.B. Public Library is sponsoring its Summer Reading Program for kids and teens. Youngsters who participate earn “reading rewards” for each book they finish, which translates into prizes and coupons from area businesses. Teens are eligible for a drawing to win prizes such as skimboards, whale-watching or fishing or kayaking trips, gift certificates to La Super Rica, and more. Plus, there’s a free icy-cold blended drink from Barnes and Nobles bookshop for all teens who complete the program. As part of Summer Reading, the library will also have weekly shows, including a magician, storytellers, and puppeteers, among other entertainment. To sign up, visit any branch of the Santa Barbara Public Library System. For more info, call 564-5603 or visit sbplibrary.org.
