Summer of Mixed Drinks

We all know food is dandy, but liquor is much better for the profit margins, although that’s not entirely why restaurants love to entice us with clever drink specials. Two favorites are living up to their MOs with their latest libations. At Palazzio (1026 State St., 564-1985, palazzio.com) the new motto might become “people don’t leave here thirsty” as they roll out the Colossal, a 48 oz. version of any of their regular cocktails, from cosmo to margarita, from lemon drop to Hypnotiq Strawberry Splash (don’t swim in the Colossal Splash, though; no lifeguard is on duty). The price is $19.95 and any amount of people can (should?) share. Meanwhile, back at the ranch—San Ysidro Ranch (900 San Ysidro Ln., 565-1700, sanysidroranch.com), that is—guests can enjoy the Flower Martini, originally offered in June to honor both National Rose Month and Rosewood Resorts’ 30th anniversary and on special until September 30. Featuring Grey Goose L’Poire, the suddenly hip St. Germain Elderflower, and pineapple juice, the Flower Cocktail will certainly be a delightful bloom on the Ranch’s ocean-view porch.
