The poor economy continues to take its toll. For instance, the Santa Barbara Public Library System has been forced to enact work furloughs, reducing the hours of operation, due to budget cuts. As of July 12, the Santa Barbara Central Library and the Eastside Branch Library, including the public meeting rooms and Faulkner Gallery, will be closed on Mondays. The Goleta Library will stay open on Mondays—thanks to funding by the Friends of Goleta Valley Library—but only from 12-6 p.m. The Montecito, Carpinteria, Santa Ynez, and Solvang libraries are also making changes to their schedules. For a complete schedule of all library hour closures, visit sbplibrary.org.
