Open Letter to the Santa Barbara City Council:

OK, let me get this straight. We are spending 100s of 1000s of dollars to construct these unbelievably dangerous bulb-outs which no one wants—except the progressive anti-car leaders of our elected council, city staff, and five members of our Landmarks Commission.

They restrict traffic flow, impede cyclists and emergency vehicles, and the city buses are knocking off most the curbs. Drivers are popping tires. The plantings on the landings have basically been sent to “plant heaven” as there is no money to care for them: the new Santa Barbara blight. Pedestrians have to walk single file down the ramps for street crossings. I’m not sure how the elderly navigate without assistance. They are a disaster!

Now, this same elected group will start to study the impending traffic impact that Santa Barbara will begin to experience in the coming years? You have to be kidding me! This city government is the problem and we citizens are going to suffer because of their twisted views. They have created traffic flow problems in the name of “calming”. How dumb does one think the voters are? Do not narrow the streets. Do not take away valuable parking. Do not make our streets more dangerous for cyclists, pedestrians, and vehicles. If you want to give up your car, go for it! Leave the rest of us alone and do not create problems for us hard working folks who end up paying for all of your incompetence.

This council can’t even figure out what to do with the marijuana initiative and will spend more of our hard earned money to send it out to the voters. And we want them telling us how to get around our town?—Karen McFadden
