Santa Barbara County supervisors—as they work to update the Land Use Development Code—voted unanimously this week to send a letter to the California Coastal Commission officially stating their concerns with several recommendations made by the state agency. The letter requests the commission reconsider recommendations that would limit residential square footage on agriculture land in the coastal zone, potentially prevent new schools from opening on ag-zoned land in the coastal zone, and add new layers of public hearings and possible Coastal Commission appeals for certain land use applications. The supes also elected 2nd District Supervisor Janet Wolf and the 3rd District’s Doreen Farr the attend the Coastal Commission hearing in San Luis Obispo next week to testify on the county’s behalf.
