Today, Rep. Lois Capps released the following statement on the ninth anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

“Every year on September 11th we mourn for the thousands who lost their lives on that fateful morning and for the families and friends they left behind. We must always remember and honor this tragic event, and remain vigilant against those who would do our country harm.

“But I also remember how this country came together after September 11th. We stood shoulder to shoulder for the uniquely American values that separate us from the people who attacked that day: freedom, tolerance, and equality. And we must seek to regain that unity and always protect our cherished liberties.

“September 11th should also remind us of the commitment made by the men and women of our Armed Forces who every day fight to safeguard the freedoms we hold so dear. And, of course, we remain grateful for the sacrifice made by thousands of first responders across the country that day and in the weeks and months that followed, the police and firefighters and healthcare workers who disregarded their own safety to help at Ground Zero.”
