Anne Luther’s fascinating assemblage is on view for the rest of September at Frameworks Caruso-Woods Gallery on Anacapa Street. Sullivan Goss has several interesting exhibits going right now, including a great group show called Geometric Abstraction that’s up until October 31, a solo show of sculpture by Ken Bortolazzo, also through October 31, and Bathed in Light, an exhibition of paintings by Anya Fisher now through November 28. The Arts Fund’s annual Individual Artist Awards have been announced—congratulations to Dug Uyesaka, Hilary Brace, and Linda Stewart-Oaten—and the winners’ group show is on view there until November 13. Also currently open through November 7 is pastel artist and Solvang resident Patricia Hedrick’s Convergence at the Elverhoj Museum of History and Art. September 16 marks the opening of John Carlander: Highlights of a Thirty-Year Career at Westmont’s new Museum of Art. The exhibit, which honors one of the founding professors of the school’s art department, will remain on display until November 13. On September 17, landscape artist and OAK group member Arturo Tello will have a solo show opening at the Easton Gallery through November 5.

The Santa Barbara Museum of Art embarks on an ambitious season of programming with five exhibits all organized under the rubric Reframing America. The first two of these shows open on September 18 and run until January 2, 2011. They are Stranger Than Fiction: Narrative in Works by Selected Contemporary Artists and Chasing Moby-Dick: Selected Works by Tony de los Reyes. The Wildling Art Museum has a traveling group show, Birds in Art, that opens on October 1 and will be hanging until January 2. The annual Small Images show at SBCC’s Atkinson Gallery kicks off on October 1 and is only up for a month, until October 29, so don’t miss this area favorite.

The third show in the SBMA’s Reframing America series, opening October 2, is called Yosemite: Then and Now and includes photos, both contemporary and classic, of California’s world-renowned wilderness. Artamo Gallery on Anapamu will celebrate the month of October’s emphasis on epicureanism with Delicious Colors, an exhibition of paintings by Janet Bothne and Mick Reinman, on view from October 6 through October 31. From October 9 through January 2 of next year, SBMA pulls two shows together from its permanent collection: An American Century: 20th Century Master Drawings, and the fifth of the Reframing America shows, American Modernism.

Contemporary Arts Forum has a collaborative installation of paintings by two artists, Peter Rostovsky and Paul Winstanley, opening on October 23, and showing through December 19. Charlotta Westergren will have an exhibit in the CAF’s Bloom Projects space simultaneously. Daniel Dove, a San Luis Obispo resident and a masterful painter of contemporary urban landscapes with an added dose of abstract expressionism, gets a solo show at the Atkinson Gallery on November 5 through 24.
