Well, the other shoe has dropped for the remaining contractors and tradesmen at the former Weber’s Bakery property in the Funk Zone. At a time when incomes and business are hitting rock bottom, the landlord has been forced to evict the tenants due to building permits that were last issued in the 1950s. Building inspectors for the City of Santa Beautiful have now found that some requirements are just not up to snuff, and the property must be returned to 1950s permitted use.

My position is that this property has served many people very well over the last 60 years. The property owner should have been allowed to request time and variances for the continued use of the property, keeping tenants and their businesses going. If the building was not permitted correctly or was unsafe for that long, then the City employees were not doing their jobs correctly, and for 60 years. I am sure they were paid their salaries and pensions over that 60-year period. Another example of wasted taxpayer money, selective enforcement, and a government working against a citizen instead of for the citizen.
