The “tussle” in the upcoming SBCC trustee election appears to be about competency when in fact the issues are about transparency and trust. When Adult Education classes were cut, fees imposed and the parent-child workshop contracts re-negotiated under duress the incumbent trustees did nothing to make this process something that the public understood. In the midst of all this controversy there is still no evidence that the State Chancellor’s office even initiated these cuts. I will be voting for the challengers (Blum, Haslund, Macker and Croninger) because they clearly are competent enough to make budget decisions but in addition they understand the public’s need to be informed and involved.
