Volunteers Sought for Goleta’s Community Weeding Day; Helpers Needed for Programs Benefiting Community Members with Special Needs.
• This Saturday, February 12, the City of Goleta will host its Annual Community Volunteer Weeding Day at the Ellwood Mesa/Sperling Preserve. Participants will learn how to identify native wildflowers and grasses, and then weed out nonnative plants—helping to maintain the grassland restoration site. The event runs from 9 a.m.-noon; volunteers should meet at the end of Coronado Drive, Goleta. Call 961-7500 for more info
• S.B. Special Needs Adaptive Programs (SNAP) is a Web-based organization run by parents, friends, and relatives of kids, teens, and adults with special needs in the S.B. area. The group is seeking volunteers to help with a variety of activities, including coaching kids’ sports teams, tutoring special-needs learners, and once-a-month childcare for youngsters with Down’s Syndrome.
