Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WIS), weasely chairman of the House Budgetary Committee—whose party objected strenuously to the Obamacare mandate that everyone please buy health insurance by 2014—now proposes to fix Medicare by (drum roll, please)…forcing seniors to buy health insurance! (Here’s your gold watch and a tiny subsidy, Mr. Retiree. Now go forth and buy some health insurance. Um, let us know how that goes for you.) Hey, what a fresh idea, one that does absolutely nothing to address healthcare costs other than passing them on to those who can least afford it. More high-minded, ideological hypocrisy from the GOP, who now find themselves beholden to a par-tea of crazies wanting to “take America back” to a happier, simpler time that never actually existed. Why not just raise the retirement age to 80 so corporations (oops, I mean “people”) such as G.E. and Exxon-Mobil can continue to enjoy what amounts to unfettered tax-exempt status? Now there’s the beauty of the free market at work, with all the precision of a fine Swiss bank.
