A 50-year-old Northern California man was airlifted to Cottage Hospital this afternoon after he jumped or fell — authorities are still unsure — from the Rincon Road overpass in Carpinteria.

According to Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Drew Sugars, witnesses saw the man driving wildly in a white pickup truck along Highway 101’s northbound lanes when he crashed into another car and then pulled onto the Rincon Road offramp.

He parked in the middle of the road before plummeting to the highway below at around 3:30 p.m.

Sugars, in a written statement, said his department can’t release additional information at this point as the incident’s investigation continues.
