The Milpas Community Association’s second community meeting took place at Our Lady of Guadalupe Hall Tuesday night and drew an eclectic mix of city officials, business owners, law enforcement officers, and neighborhood residents. Speakers included Kirsten Ayars of the Public Works Department, Lorraine Cruz-Carpenter of Looking Good Santa Barbara, Sue Sadler of the City’s Environmental Services Department, Lieutenant James Pfleging of the Santa Barbara Police Department, and Dr. Gus Frias, Coordinator of the South Coast Task Force on Youth Gangs. Topics included the widening of the freeway between Milpas Street and Hot Springs Road, graffiti cleanup, illegal dumping, and gang prevention, with homelessness only briefly mentioned.
