Subcommittee on Homelessness Discusses Hiring A Homeless Coordinator

The Santa Barbara City Council’s Subcommittee on Homelessness and Community Relations met Tuesday, June 7, to discuss issues related to outreach work and the “Real Change Not Spare Change” campaign. The subcommittee consisted of just Mayor Helene Schneider and Councilmember Bendy White as the subcommittee’s chair, Councilmember Dale Francisco, was curiously absent. Efforts to discover why he was absent were unsuccessful. Most of the meeting was focused on both the possibility of hiring a homeless coordinator and creating a comprehensive database of homeless persons in the city.
Rob Fredericks, deputy director of the city’s Housing Authority and a leader of Common Ground Santa Barbara, presented information relating to the city’s homeless population that was collected during Common Ground’s survey week last February. To read more, see homelessinsb.org.
