Man Accused of Torture Heads to Trial

Samuel Martinez, accused of torture and assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, is headed to trial for an alleged 2006 attack on a 53-year-old homeless woman. Jury selection is underway. The victim was found badly beaten and partially nude in a secluded area at 1232 De la Vina Street. Martinez faces a possible life sentence if convicted of torture.
