A man who attacked a custody deputy in Santa Barbara County Jail will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to charges relating to the attack, according to Cynthia Gresser, deputy district attorney, as well as charges related to sexual assaults on two women and a child for which he was in jail in the first place. Corey Dugan, from Santa Maria, was in jail awaiting trial on sexual assault and kidnapping charges when he attempted to escape while being transferred from one jail cell to another in May 2010. He overpowered a custody deputy, stole the deputy’s keys and uniform, and then attacked another custody deputy.
