Man Catches Record-Setting Halibut

A man fishing at Santa Rosa Island caught what may be the biggest California halibut ever reeled in. The 67-pound monster, reported ABC Channel 7, was snagged by Southern California resident Francisco Rivera on 7/1. The species is native to North America’s Pacific Coast, from the Quillayute River in Washington to Magdalena Bay in Baja California, and is much smaller than the more northern Pacific halibut which can reach up to 300 pounds. The current record for a California halibut is just under 60 pounds.
