A car accident at 9:35 a.m. this morning knocked out power to dozens of Goleta homes. According to County Fire officials, a 75-year-old man lost control of his car on Modoc Road and Encore Drive and hit a power pole, shearing it off its base. The man was injured, though it’s not clear to what degree, and he was transported to Cottage Hospital by ambulance. Live power lines fell into the street following the collision; Southern California Edison personnel responded and quickly cut power to the area. Modoc Road was closed in both directions as emergency crews worked the scene. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the CHP.
