Three men were arrested Sunday in connection with a stabbing that took place in Isla Vista at around 1:15 that morning.

According to Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Drew Sugars, deputies responded to a fight in the 6500 block of El Nido Lane. They learned that a 19-year-old living in a nearby apartment heard a verbal altercation between the three suspects and at least three other people, and came out to investigate.

As the argument escalated, the suspects reportedly stabbed the 19-year-old in the chest before running to a nearby car and driving away. A 22-year-old man who came to the victim’s assistance during the fight also suffered a cut to his hand. The 19-year-old was treated at Cottage Hospital and is expected to recover, said Sugars.

Not long after, Sheriff’s deputies and CHP officers stopped a car on the 6800 block of Hollister Avenue that matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle. All three were identified by several witnesses and detained.

Fernando Uriarte, 19, was booked into County Jail for attempted murder with a bail amount of $500,000. Abraham Vega was booked for assault with a deadly weapon with $100,000 bail. Both remain behind bars. Richard Valladares, 18, was booked for assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was $30,000, which he posted Monday.
