August 30, 2011 marked three years since Ms. Carolyn Samuels was hit and killed by a drunk driver while jogging on Las Positas Road in Santa Barbara. Ms. Samuels was well known for her spirit of community service. When she was struck she was getting in shape for a marathon with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training, to raise money for the organization.

Ms. Samuels was an inspiration to all who knew her. I believe her tireless spirit is still working through others, and so I write this plea: Do not forget Carolyn Samuels, not how she lived, not how she died, and not her dogged persistence at making this a better world.

Donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society can be made at the society’s website. For information and discussion of DUIs and drug and alcohol recovery, see my Facebook page.
