Maybe you have heard of Shadow’s Fund through the recent media coverage. If not, we are a pit bull rescue. Actually, Shadow’s Fund is not just a dog rescue, but also a sanctuary for horses, sheep, pigs, and chickens. These animals thrive and get a second chance. Of course the main objective is to find loving, forever homes for the dogs. The pit bull breed has endured unimaginable cruelty, but their love and devotion is unstoppable. Did you know that one out of 600 pit bulls make it out of a shelter alive? Shadow’s Fund aims to change this, one dog at a time.
If you have a dog that is a family member, you know the love they give. As volunteers we get unconditional love and kisses in abundance. These dogs don’t discriminate against us; they just crave kindness. With joy in our heart we give these dogs our all. At various events, many people have changed their perception of the breed by meeting one of the dogs. The media-driven demonization of this breed makes it a slow process to find homes. But it does happen, and we volunteers are happy and sad at the same time. We get very attached to these beautiful animals and it’s tough to see them go. But then there is room to save another.
Over the last 30 days we have been to two dog events, one located in Ventura and the other in Santa Barbara. We received a lot of great feedback and praise for the work that we are all doing to try and preserve this breed and to open everyone’s heart and mind. There are a lot of pit bull lovers out there. I guess until you own one, you don’t realize.
Shadow’s Fund was founded in 2009. Jill Anderson and Cody Rackley are in the process of buying the 100-acre sanctuary. These two young adults are the drive, the passion and the 24/7 devotion to the cause. Two finer people you could not possibly know. Sad to say there are those that are putting road blocks in their way in this endeavor. We say: Shame on you. Please remember that, just like with people, there are good and bad in every race. The same applies to animals of all kind, there are good and bad in all breeds.
Open your hearts and help us. Go to shadowsfund.org to make a donation. Everything helps. One hundreds percent of funds go directly to the animals.
Also we would like to thank several businesses in helping us with our last fundraiser. With appreciation to Foods Co., Vons, and Trader Joe’s.
