Santa Barbara police officers are searching the areas around Franklin Elementary School and the Eastside Library school after receiving two reports of a male juvenile with a gun.

According to police spokesperson Sgt. Lorenzo Duarte, fire department personnel at Franklin School for unrelated reasons were approached by a parent at around 3:20 p.m. who said she had seen a young man with a gun. Shortly thereafter, dispatch received a call that a juvenile with a firearm was spotted near the Eastside Library.

“Officers requested Franklin School be locked down for safety purposes until they could conclude their search,” said Duarte. The school was re-opened when no suspect was located, he went on. The library was also searched and cleared.

Police continue to comb the area.
