A woman who went swimming in the ocean near West Beach was rescued Saturday morning at around 6:30 a.m. According to Captain Gary Pitney with City Fire, Harbor Patrol received a call that a woman had entered the water alone just west of Stearns Wharf.

She’d reportedly been at a beach party for several hours prior to going into the ocean. The person who called Harbor Patrol was concerned she hadn’t returned.

Around 20 minutes later, a Harbor Patrol boat found the woman clinging to a pier piling. She was conscious, but not responsive, said Captain Pitney. Officers placed her on board, and she was transported to a ambulance that brought her to Cottage Hospital. Her condition is unknown at this point.
