Several key business-related events are scheduled for November on the South Coast.

A free business seminar will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 2 at the Santa Barbara Veterans Memorial Building, 112 West Cabrillo Blvd.

The Small Business Development Center of California is sponsoring the seminar.

The center’s “Next Steps for Small Business” tour will help small company owners understand how to expand their operations through social media, learn how to sell to the government, and find the benefits of selling internationally.

Each breakout session will feature speakers who will discuss what it takes to be successful in today’s economy. Participants will get small-group, face-to-face contact with panelists from all the breakout topics.

“Economic Recovery or Downturn on the Central Coast in 2012” is the Santa Barbara Executive Roundtable’s topic for its monthly panel discussion from 8 to 10 a.m. on November 10 at the University Club, 1332 Santa Barbara Street.

Panelists are: Realtor Dan Encell; Mark Schniepp, director and chief executive officer of the Goleta-based California Economic Forecast; Kenneth R. Hyman, CEO of Partnervest Financial Group; and Jerry Beaver, of Pacifica Commercial Real Estate.

The MIT Enterprise Forum Central Coast will present “Raising Venture Capital: Some of the Important Rules Have Changed!” from 5 to 8 p.m. on November 16 at UCSB’s Corwin Pavilion, in conjunction with the school’s Technology Management Program.

One of the most difficult and critically important steps in starting a new company is finding venture capital at various stages. The negative economic climate and a subtle change in venture investment criteria have made this problem and solution even more complicated.

Three experts will discuss some important changes in venture investing. They represent the three segments of the venture investment community: angel investing, venture capital investing, and private equity venture investing.

As is traditional with MIT Forum programs, following the presentations of the three speakers, there will be an open question-and-answer session in which the audience is invited to participate.
