Concert to Benefit Sergio Romero Memorial Scholarship Fund
15-Year-Old Killed Last Month Loved Music and Going to JAMS
A slew of young musical talent will be on display Wednesday night at SOhO in a concert benefiting the Sergio Romero Memorial Scholarship Fund and Jasmine’s Alternative Music School (JAMS). Romero, 15, was killed when he was hit by a truck while crossing Milpas Street last month. He was on his way home from JAMS, a spot he frequented in the months preceding his death.
By all accounts, music was Romero’s passion, one that he shared with family members and friends. He performed in front of a large audience at the Avocado Festival in October and had just recorded a song with his uncle, an experienced signer and guitar player.
The Romero fund will make the free music education and experience that JAMS offers available to more students, with hopes of fulfilling the dreams of more local young people.
The concert will feature five bands, all of which are composed of musicians between the ages of 10 and 16. The show, which begins at 5 p.m., is open to all ages. Tickets are $8 and are available at the door and online at sohosb.com. There will also be a silent auction at the event.
