KDB is hoping to raise the necessary funds to further its mission – providing an engaging variety of classical music; news stories on the vital work of the county’s nonprofits; special programing; and live and recorded local concerts. In this tough economic time, listener support is vital to the sustainability of this local, community treasure.
Beginning on May 3, KDB will run an on-air pledge drive for seven days encouraging listeners to donate to and/or become members of KDB. Listeners will be treated to a week of on-air celebrations including listener testimonials and special guests. KDB is hoping to reach its fundraising goal before the seven days is up so that they can get back to doing what they do best – providing great classical music and coverage of the arts.
“It is important for us to reach out to our community of listeners,” said Tim Owens, general manager of KDB. “Their support is not only vital to our organization’s ability to promote and preserve classical music, but to also foster a local arts scene that is vibrant and thriving.”
With only a handful of classical radio stations remaining in the country, KDB has never been a more valuable community treasure and asset, important for the cultural relevance it provides its many listeners. KDB preserves a great musical heritage for music lovers in our many communities, including those who may not have access to the performing arts, such as the elderly, disabled, or those suffering through economic hardships. KDB is also an essential voice for local arts organizations, providing the opportunity to promote concerts and events, which in turn nurture our local economy.
“Santa Barbara has an incredible arts scene, with KDB serving as an important voice for the local arts and nonprofit communities,” said Susan Miles Gulbransen, board chair for KDB. “The on-air membership drive will help us to stay on the air and continue to grow, allowing KDB’s voice to remain strong now and into the future.”
Donating is easy and quick. Simply call (805) 880-9393 anytime before, during, or after the on-air drive. There are several options available for membership, starting at a minimum of $35. Donors can give a one time donation or make a monthly sustaining pledge, as low as $10 a month. Special thank you gifts will be given in appreciation.
KDB is serving Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, one of only a handful of self supporting classical music radio stations in the United States. With more than 30,000 listeners per week, the station is known for its support of the arts community. KDB is owned and operated by the Santa Barbara Foundation and is a listener, as well as advertiser, supported radio station. You can help preserve, enrich and grow Santa Barbara’s only local classical music station by contributing to the Santa Barbara Foundation’s KDB Fund.
