In Bookstores Here

Thanks for your review of Field Guide to Animal Tracks and Scat of California. I went down to Chaucer’s Books and they had plenty of copies in stock.

I am appalled by the “4-1-1” accompanying the review. You cite two websites where anyone can order a copy of the book. You failed to mention any of our fine local bookstores or even the term “local bookstore.” Every dollar unnecessarily spent online for a book is a vote that our local bookstores will close, and Santa Barbara is blessed with more than one fine bookstore. One would certainly hope that a good local newspaper would consider a local bookstore a valuable community asset, valuable enough to garner editorial support and basic neighborly respect.
