RVs No Longer Welcome on Cabrillo

“No RV Parking” signs will soon sprout up along Cabrillo Boulevard in response to repeated complaints from businesses and residents that homeless RV dwellers are monopolizing limited curb space along a waterfront much visited by tourists. In years past, City Hall’s efforts to restrict RV parking along the waterfront and select neighborhoods were effectively stymied by homeless rights activists who successfully argued that the city’s proposed signage program was legally flawed.

That plan — deemed insufficient by Judge Denise de Bellefeuille — was simply to post no parking signs at the city’s entrance. Under the new scheme, the city will post multiple signs along the ocean side of Cabrillo Boulevard from Castillo Street to the volleyball courts near East Beach. RV owners who park there anyway will be given $48 citations. Those with five or more unpaid citations risk having their vehicles towed and impounded.
