Film Feast, Mushrooms Gone Wild, and Santa Ynez Valley’s Restaurant Week

From the lobsters in Annie Hall to The War of the Roses’ “pissed-on fish,” the food in some movies is as memorable as the films themselves. And so it is with the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF). For the third year in a row, the S.B. Downtown Organization has teamed up with the fest and several area restaurants to present the S.B. Film Feast. For the 11 days of SBIFF, participating restos will offer specials, prix fixe menus, and silver-screen-themed grub, like Julienne’s inspired three-course — and, at $25 per person, super cheap—“Big Lebowski Meal” (frisée salad, toasted beer nuts, “pancakes,” and lingon-berry vinaigrette; I’n’O burger served with house-cut fries; and, of course, White Russian milkshake). During Saturday’s Mushrooms Gone Wild VII at Bedford Winery’s Tasting Room, graze on ’shroomy apps including tarts, pâtés, and wood-fired pizzas, while sipping Bedford wines and learning about fungi from Dr. Bob Cummings, SBCC biology prof and ’shroom expert. Stick around for a screening of the Japanese sci-fi cult classic Attack of the Mushroom People.
