Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara announced today that Lakey Peterson – a Santa Barbara native, and one of the world’s leading female surfers known for her impressive aerial maneuvers, athletic force and rise through the ranks at a young age – will be this year’s inspirational speaker at the 12th Annual Celebration Luncheon, held on November 7th at the Bacara Resort and Spa. This event will also feature the 2nd annual Strong, Smart and Bold Awards, honoring Sheila and James Zimmerman, the Volentine Family Foundation, and the National Charity League, Inc. – Santa Barbara Chapter. Tickets range in price from $95/individual to $950/table host. For more information and ticket purchases, contact Shannon Kelly at (805) 963-4757 ext. 19, or girlsincsbevents.org.

Currently ranked No. 6 in the world, Lakey Peterson has been “strong, smart, and bold” from the start. Dubbed “Lakey Surf Legend” at age five, Lakey was surfing competitively by age eleven. The following year Lakey won her first of several titles from the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA), and at age fourteen she won the NSSA Open Women’s Title by performing the first-ever female aerial maneuver in competition. She defended her title in 2010, and was named the 2010-11 ASP North American Regional Champion for the women’s and junior women’s division. At sixteen, Lakey had the chance to compete as a wild card entry in the 2011 U.S. Open of Surfing – a Women’s World Tour event, and the biggest surf event in the world – where she placed runner-up. Lakey completed her 2011 season by winning every event in the North American Junior Pro series. Now in her “Rookie Year” as part of the official ASP Women’s World Tour, she has yet again proven herself a force to be reckoned with, winning the 2012 U.S. Open of Surfing.

Lakey Peterson is available for interviews prior to the Celebration Luncheon. Please contact Shannon Kelly to schedule.
