Artist rendering of Goleta rink

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians recently donated $225,000 to Goleta’s Ice in Paradise skating project, providing a funding boost for the long-sought skating rink slated to open its doors in September. The multi-year grant commitment will aid in construction costs for the 46,500-square-foot facility, which will be featuring the tribe’s name on the arena’s main rink scoreboard. “This donation will help us to provide permanent public ice recreation serving youth, adults, students, and families in our community, and we thank the Chumash for their amuyich (generosity),” said rink board president Kathy Mintzer.
