I want to apologize to the man (young and red haired, I believe) I almost hit with my car on Friday night at the corner of De La Vina and Victoria streets. You were nearly into the middle of the street when I saw you, and I am sincerely glad you stopped crossing the intersection before something terrible and tragic ensued. That corner is very dark, but that’s not an excuse; I was 100 percent in the wrong. However, I did want to write this open letter to advise all pedestrians in our beautiful city to not assert the right of way over a moving automobile, especially at night when the driver may not see you.

As my wife’s grandmother used to say: better to be wrong than to be dead right.
