U.S. 101 Car Crash Kills Goleta Man
Driver, Suffering from a Medical Condition, Collided with another Vehicle
Driving southbound on U.S. 101, 44-year-old Ismael Gil of Goleta died Wednesday afternoon when a medical condition caused him to veer his 1963 Volkswagen Bug into a Volkswagen Cabrio entering the highway at the southbound Los Carneros on ramp. After the collision, Gil’s car drifted toward the right shoulder, went down an embankment, and came to rest on the passenger’s side. Emergency medical personnel pronounced Gil dead at the scene. His passenger was treated for minor injuries at Cottage Hospital.
The driver and passenger of the Cabrio sustained minor injuries when their car hit the highway’s center median guardrail.
At this point, neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have been involved in the collision.
