The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office is on the hunt for a former SBCC student who allegedly passed a bad $20,000 check and was involved in a recent Isla Vista burglary.

In June, 21-year-old Mackenzie Long bought a black Audi at the Nissan dealership in Goleta, said Sheriff’s spokesperson Kelly Hoover. She paid in part with a personal check for $20,000, which bounced. “Dealership staff communicated with Long via telephone on numerous occasions and said she promised to come in and pay for the vehicle,” Hoover stated. Long never did, and the vehicle was later found abandoned near USC in Los Angeles. It was parked illegally and towed. Long never came to claim it.

This Sunday, Long was visiting friends at an apartment in the 6500 block of Trigo Road when, the next day, a roommate who was not in the apartment the night prior discovered expensive items he owned were missing, Hoover said. Long was seen on video surveillance taking the property from the residence and leaving.

Long is from the Stockton area and has ties to Isla Vista and Los Angeles, Hoover said. If you have information on either case or her whereabouts, call the Sheriff’s Anonymous Tip-Line at 805-681-4171.
