In the past two weeks, three Goleta neighborhoods have seen 36 overnight thefts from unlocked cars. Most recently, 15 crimes were reported Tuesday night near Fairview Avenue north of Cathedral Oaks. Six thefts occurred on March 2 in the Langlo Ranch area; 15 were reported March 9 near Winchester Canyon, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release.

Reminding residents to always lock their cars and close their windows, authorities said, “The thieves are looking for crimes of opportunity, and an unlocked vehicle is an easy target.” In addition to removing their driver’s license, valuables, and any spare keys, residents are advised to hide the garage remote and to set the car alarm when they park. Anyone with information on the recent car thefts may call the Sheriff’s Office at (805) 683-2724 or call anonymously at (805) 681-4171.
