[ORIGINAL STORY]: An MTD driver called in an apparently deceased person lying at the bus stop on Anapamu and Chapala streets early this morning. By about 8 a.m., police officers were on scene and confirmed a man had been found dead there, with what appeared to be some belongings in bags on the bench.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

[UPDATE, 2:08 p.m.]: The MTD driver, who began his Line 11 route at approximately 6 a.m., saw the prone figure when he stopped at the covered bus stop at Chapala-Anapamu. He called his supervisor, who came to the stop and determined the person was dead before calling police at 7:33 a.m. Police Sgt. John Ingram stated the deceased appeared to be an elderly homeless man who may have spent the night at the bus stop, and that his death did not seem to be suspicious. His body was transported to the Sheriff-Coroner’s Office for notification of his next-of-kin.

[UPDATE, Apr. 13]: The deceased has been identified as Ghassem Hosseinian, a 70-year-old transient who lived in Santa Barbara, said Kelly Hoover, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.
