Santa Barbara’s best charity event this fall may just be a non-event. After all, what could be easier than raising money and chilling the easiest way of all — from the comfort of your couch at home. Rather than dress up in uncomfortable clothes to raise paddles and raise funds for the Dream Foundation with its usual fall gala, this year the organization invites supporters to help make dreams come true for terminally ill adults across the country and Puerto Rico with an online-only auction.

Beginning on Friday, October 27, the “No Gala Gala” auction offerings include lunch in Los Angeles with legendary swimmer Diana Nyad, whose triumphant life is the focus of the new film Nyad, starring Jodie Foster and Annette Bening; or a private lesson in character design for animation with Emmy Award–winning animation artist Andy Suriano. There’s also a Chicago White Sox VIP experience during the 2024 season: on-field for batting practice and premium seating plus other “Windy City” adventures; a personalized video message from Santa Barbara–based actor, producer, director and Dream Foundation Ambassador Rob Lowe; an exquisite acrylic-on-canvas painting by acclaimed Santa Barbara–based artist Colette Cosentino; as well as vacation packages in New York City, Maui, and St. Barts. Additional items are still being added.

Bidding continues through Wednesday, November 1, with 100 percent of funds raised from the non-event going directly to granting dreams that bring joy, comfort, and closure to someone facing the end of life and their loved ones.
