Wow! That west facing rendering of the proposed 12 story tower is just damn ugly! Talk about serious visual blight.
The S.Y. Valley is NOT Las Vegas, Chumash tribe! The County has said "NO!" The locals have said "NO!" Yet you take all your issues to a distant congressman for his hoped passage in Washington, DC. Unreal! Play by the rules!
Enough, please. We don't not need the financial crumbs you toss out in the community aka sponsorships, grants, etc.

Let's hope for once Bill Brown has over estimated his numbers. Sadly, I fear this will, once again, be the case.
As we all know too well, he has a history of doing end-runs around all in his path from the voters to the Board of Supes. when it comes to getting what he wants. He simply can NEVER be wrong.
That's a costly & regrettable mistake we'll look back on when he's wallowing in his pork barrel retirement in Bora Bora or on his own island.

If this accused film-flam guy is convicted, I say right on!
I get so weary of well to do people essentially ripping off the unsuspecting to keep feather their nest. This guy's nest sounds like it was pretty comfy.
I wonder if he's going to use the skin cancer excuse to be out of jail? I've had many of those removed & trust me, you can actually walk & breathe when it's over. Start the violins. Hah!

Howgreenwasmyvalley, JarvisJarvis & nomoresanity are spot on seeing through this topic.
Tenure today does more to protect weak, under performing teachers than to promote best of the profession.
How about really turning up merit pay for the ones who "deliver the goods?"
Let the students do teacher evaluations along with their parents. That's been done in colleges everywhere to a degree - where students rate professors in the course catalogs. Does the college admin see these? You're darn right! I have a few college admin-type friends and they absolutely use those comments to focus on specific teachers who get the glowing & opposite comments quarter after quarter.
This could also work at a lower level.
Tenure? Forgetabout it.
On Teacher Tenure Struck Down

John Houchin says that SB teachers are evaluated every two years based upon six teaching standards. However, the problem is that a teacher who clears that one formal evaluation is granted tenure on the first day of year three!
The large majority of administrators simply do not want to fight teacher unions & organization. Hence, they look the other way & hope the weak educator will either get better or eventually leave. Sure, the site administrator gets the poor teacher "help," but is this really effective?
What Houchin fails to mention is how many of those teachers are not rehired & sent packing. From my experience, very few.
Sadly, the large majority of people that are talented at something simply can't teach kids between K - 12. You have to know what makes kids "tick" first!
Tenure worked many years ago, but we have changed as a country & can't continue protecting an institution that is in a huge state of flux.
I say make the teachers WORK to keep their jobs just like most another businesses. After all, these are our future leaders & workers & they need to be ready for whatever comes their way.

Right on, ooshea.
In my opinion, the SBSO blew this one badly from the get go. That being the ill fated afternoon SIX officers interviewed Rodger at his apartment. They apparently NEVER checked the registered weapons database to see if this guy had ever purchased guns. This is simply inexcusable!
I wouldn't be surprised to hear Brown state later on as this botched interview comes front & center, that they did in fact check. If so, I say, Yeah, Right!
Sorry, SBSO, but you have to be on your "A Game" & the past year in IV, it's been more like your "D."

Why didn't the SBSO ever check to see if this whack job kid had purchased guns, considering they were there on a mental health check?
I'd think that would happen as routine prior to any visit of that nature.
Time for change, SBSO!
No more death at the hands of the mentally ill.
