I would have to agree that her character has been compromised. I do wonder why the employees believe they can force her into a union contract however. This is an at will employment state and she doesn't have to hire union employees or enter into contracts if she doesn't want to. I know it is horrible to lose your job and the way she went about it was tasteless. I will never purchase a SBNP paper, that doesn't mean I think the union should be able to come in and force its rules and policies on private businesses.

I was once a proud Republican. I believed whole-heartedly in the need for smaller government, personal freedom with responsibility, and all that came with it. Unfortunately over the years I have cringed when I see who the party stands behind. I will never be a Democrat because my beliefs are not shared by that party either. When I say less governemnt involvement I mean across the board, not just where it is easy or convenient. When I say personal freedoms that automatically includes the responsibility to to stand behind my actions and pay for any mistakes I make. I believe in hard work and that nobody should have a free ride but the scale should not be so horribly skewed that the people who work hard have no chance of having a comfortable life. I know there is a happy medium somewhere in the middle of the two extreme parties that we have in place. I hope I live long enough to see both of them scrapped and some fresh ideas formed that are not beholden to catch phrases or antiquated ideas that were born from strict religious teachings or uninformed rants. One day it is my sincere hope that we will actually get some grown ups to run our government and we as a nation realize that as long as we allow lobbying by those with the funds to pay top dollar to control everything nothing will get better.

While I agree that sexual predators should have long sentences, most life in my opinion, I find it odd the DA was allowed to extend the 26 year sentence given to him. How does that work? I was under the impression that once a person served their sentence they did parole and whatever else was sentenced. I have never heard of someone serving their sentence and then being kept in prison for an additional 6 years past the maximum sentence.

Way to promote fiscally responsible spending Helene. Oh wait you have no idea what that means. Telling people to go downtown and spend all of their money because the city might have to sell its parking lots? How are we supposed to take this poor excuse for a mayor seriously when this is the message she sends out?

Ken the guests will pay the bed tax but it will go to Caruso instead of the county. Now he could decide not to charge while he gets the tax holiday but somehow I do not see that happening.

I like Casey's comment. “The worst-case scenario is we’re forced to sell our lots, we lose the first 75 minutes of free parking, all the lots are operated differently, shoppers have to pay higher rates, and pretty soon you have tsunamis, locusts, and floods,” It shows exactly how ridiculous it is for the city to fight what has already been decided. Sell the lots and move on to other more pressing matters.

It sounds like the teacher has issues and she is using this lawsuit to encite people so she can get her way. When my children were in grade school I met with the principal of their school to vent my frustration that my children sat through half of the day not understanding what was going on because the teacher was speaking Spanish. She insinuated it would be racism to separate the students based on the language gap. Excuse me?? Since when did the inability to speak a language become racism. My grandfather came here from Mexico (legally) my whole family is Mexican/Native American, there is no racism. My mother made the decision that she would not teach us Spanish when we were young, although I did get yelled at in Spanish by my grandmother when I was younger. There is an issue holding other children back because some of the class does not speak the language. I am also a Notary and I get requests for sworn statements every year from people needing to show residency for schools. Guess what? Most of them have a different address on their identification than the one they are claiming on the form. Some have flat out said the statement is a lie. They then get mad because I will not notarize the document. I am not saying classrooms should be separated based on race, I do believe ESL children should have a dedicated class until they are fluent enough to join the English speaking classes. It is also true that higher education is not pushed in families that have lower incomes than others. One reason is they do not know how to apply for grants and don't believe they can afford the costs involved. Another is having to work early in life is necessary to help support the family. I am trying to break these "traditions" for my children and make sure they go to school, get good grades, and go to college.

How do the people that believe this property should be open for their use plan to block a property owner from building a residential dwelling? I hope he blocks it all off and builds something really atrocious there just to make all of them realize if you don't pay for the property you don't get to use it for free any time you want. It was ridiculous that the last owners could not build because of these whiners.
