More than 167 people showed up on 3/13 for the Jerry Roberts Roast, a San Francisco event to raise money for Roberts’s legal defense against the $25 million lawsuit News-Press owner Wendy McCaw has brought against him. Held at the Field Club Lounge of AT&T Park, the lighthearted event featured affectionate ribbing by reporter Greg Lucas and executive editor Phil Bronstein, both of the San Francisco Chronicle, Washington Post reporter Lou Cannon, and political consultant Gale Kaufman, as well as a rebuttal by Roberts, including one of his famous top ten lists. Among his top ten reasons for going to the News-Press: “Santa Barbara’s so cool. Did you know Rob Lowe lives there?” and “What’s she going to do, sue me?”
