Santa Barbara Tours

If you can’t get out of town this summer for an official vacation, why not act like a tourist in your own backyard? Besides the obvious attractions like our beaches and shopping, Santa Barbara is brimming with cultural and historical tours to suit just about anyone’s fancy. Here are some of our favorites:

•Every Saturday and Sunday at 10am, the Architectural Foundation hosts the Architectural Walk, touring Santa Barbara’s most interesting and historic buildings. Sat.: Meet at De la Guerra Plaza; Sun.: Meet at the S.B. Public Library’s Central Branch. Call 965-6307.

•Santa Barbara Trolley Tours offer the perfect trip around town, with stops at many of S.B.’s most popular attractions. Tours pick up 14 times a day at various locations. Adults $18, kids’ fees vary. Visit or call 965-0353.

•By many accounts the most beautiful government building in America, the Santa Barbara Courthouse offers free docent tours every day at 2pm except on Sundays, and additional tours are every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday at 10:30am. Call 962-6464.

• No Santa Barbara tour is complete without a stop at the Mission. Self-guided tours are available every day from 9am-5pm, and docent-guided tours are available by appointment. Call 682-4149.
