Capps Helps Block Expansion of Surveillance Act

Congressmember Lois Capps voted against the expansion of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act sought by the Bush administration. The act facilitates the Justice Department’s and the National Security Agency’s ability to monitor the phone calls and emails of Americans communicating with foreign nationals outside the U.S. Capps’s spokesperson, Emily Kryder, said the measure did not contain enough safeguards against abuse. Administration officials have rejected such criticisms.
