From My Little Pony and sea-monkeys to ant farms and Pound Puppies, there are few things kids love more than fluffy, slimy, and creepy-crawly companions. This Sunday, August 12, from noon-1:30 p.m., Hearts Adaptive Riding Program (4420 Calle Real) welcomes Thumbelina, the world’s smallest horse. Standing a proud 17.5 inches tall, Thumbelina will stop by as part of her national tour in support of organizations that work with disabled and special-needs kids. The pint-sized pony will bring coloring books and posters for all in attendance. The event is free and open to the public.

Naturalist Diana Kennett leads a kid-friendly walking tour, titled Aquatic Explorations: A Parent-Child Workshop, through the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden’s (1212 Mission Canyon Rd.) ponds and streams on Saturday, August 11, from 10 a.m.-noon. Admission ranges from $10-$25.

Enjoy a full day of insects and sea life as the Ty Warner Sea Center presents the Creepy Crawlies Family Arthropod Festival. Enjoy puppet shows, story readings, and live bug exhibits and collections on Saturday, August 11, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Free with admission.
