The driver of a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer was moderately injured Thursday afternoon when his car flipped over on northbound Highway 101 northbound through Carpinteria. The driver was also arrested on a misdemeanor DUI charge. According to witnesses, the driver was traveling at an estimated speed of 70 miles per hour when he attempted to exit the freeway using the Santa Monica Road off-ramp. The car was moving too fast to follow the ramp’s curve and overturned, rolling several times, and finally coming to rest passenger side-down on the highway. The driver, the only person involved in the accident, was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital where he was treated for moderate cuts, scrapes and bruises.

California Highway Patrol Investigators later determined that the subject had been drinking before the accident, and officials attributed the cause of the crash to his driving under the influence of alcohol.
