UCSB Study Favors Strong Fish

A study by UCSB marine biologists indicates that fish surviving a difficult journey in their larval states often become healthier, more long-lived adults than their locally spawned counterparts. Scientists looked at chemical consistencies in the ear structures of the bluehead wrasse to determine where in the ocean a fish had been during its life and found that the better-traveled fish arrived at shore-adjacent reefs in better condition than those that did not.
